Decorations and Fizz: How to Make the Most of the Studio's Wintery Events
There's a particular energy that comes with the turn of the season. The mornings feel different, the light changes quality, and there's a quiet pull towards warmth, creativity and spending time with people who matter.
Autumn has always felt like one of the most natural times to do something meaningful — and in the studio, that feeling translates into some of my favourite events of the year.
This autumn, there are several events I'm especially excited about. Each one offers something a little different, but all of them share the same things that make glass fusing such a rewarding way to spend a few hours: genuine creativity, a welcoming atmosphere, and something handmade to look forward to collecting once the firing is done.
If you've been thinking about booking onto something, here's a closer look at what's coming up — and why autumn might be exactly the right moment to try it.
Why Autumn Feels Made for Creative Workshops
Before diving into the events themselves, it's worth saying something about why this time of year tends to bring people to the studio in a particular frame of mind.

The transition into autumn can affect people differently. For some it's energising — a fresh start, a new season, a sense of purpose returning after the looser rhythm of summer. For others it brings a dip in energy or mood as the days shorten and the pace of life quickens again.
Either way, creativity helps. Working with your hands, focusing on colour and design, and being present in a calm and welcoming environment are all things that naturally support mental wellbeing.
Glass fusing, in particular, has a way of drawing your full attention — not in a demanding way, but in the gentle, absorbing way that quietens busy thoughts and creates space for something more peaceful.
And when that creative time is shared with others — friends, family, or simply a warm group of strangers who quickly stop feeling like strangers — the benefits compound. Connection, laughter, shared focus and mutual encouragement all add up to something that goes well beyond the finished piece.

These aren't things I say lightly. I see them play out in the studio, in every session, in the expressions on people's faces as they settle into their work and the world outside falls away for a while.
Create Your Own Gifts
With Christmas closer than it feels, there's never been a better time to start thinking about handmade gifts — and my Create Your Own Gifts workshop is designed exactly for that.
This is a workshop built around personal creativity and the joy of making something that genuinely means something. You'll work with a beautiful selection of glass to create your own fused pieces — guided throughout, with plenty of freedom to make choices that reflect your own style and the people you have in mind.
There's something really satisfying about handing someone a gift you've made yourself. It carries a warmth that nothing off a shelf can quite replicate — and glass, once fired and finished, has a quality that makes even a first-time maker's work look exceptional.

This workshop is a lovely choice for:
Anyone who wants to get ahead on Christmas gifting in a creative and meaningful way
Those looking for a more personal alternative to high street shopping
People who want to try glass fusing in a focused, purposeful session
Anyone who has always wanted to make something handmade but wasn't sure where to start
Flexible payment options are available at checkout.
Christmas Decorations Workshop – 14th November
It might feel early to be thinking about Christmas — but my Christmas Decorations workshop on 14th November is the kind of session that always books up well ahead of time, and for good reason.
You'll design and create your own handmade fused glass decoration, guided through every step in a relaxed and friendly setting. Once it's been kiln-fired, you can arrange to collect it from the studio — giving you something genuinely personal to add to your tree this year, or to give as a gift that will be brought out every Christmas to come.

This workshop is for participants aged 16 and over, and multiple dates are available so there's flexibility to find what suits your schedule.
There's something particularly meaningful about making your own festive decorations. It's not just about the finished piece — it's about the memory of the afternoon, the care that went into the choices you made, and the fact that what you're hanging on the tree was made by your own hands.
For anyone who has wanted to start a creative Christmas tradition, this is a lovely place to begin.
What All My Events Have in Common
Different in style and theme as these events are, they share something that runs through everything I do in the studio:
A welcoming, pressure-free atmosphere — no experience is ever needed, and everyone is supported from the moment they arrive
Limited places — kept deliberately small so that every participant gets proper guidance and space to enjoy the process
Something to look forward to collecting — because pieces are always kiln-fired after the event, there's a second moment of joy when you see your finished work
The social side — events bring people together in a way that's natural and unhurried, creating connection without any effort at all
Real creative freedom — within a guided structure, every choice is yours, which is why no two pieces ever come out looking the same
How to Book
All events are bookable directly through the website, where you'll also find full details on what's included, how the firing process works, and what to expect on the day.
Places are limited across all sessions, and the Christmas events in particular tend to fill up faster than people expect. If any of these have caught your eye, booking sooner rather than later is always the best approach.
You can explore all upcoming events and workshops at www.ygfs.co.uk, or get in touch if you'd like a little guidance on which session would suit you best.
Because the best creative afternoons are the ones you actually book — and autumn really is the perfect time to treat yourself to one.
